ALT 1 - Introduction to Marketing

Students will be introduced to the world of marketing.

AST 1.1 - Marketing Environment  :  Understand that marketing is all around us.

AST 1.2 - Concept of Private Enterprise  :  Understand the concept of private enterprise.

AST 1.3 - Marketing Mix  :  Understand the marketing mix or 4P's of marketing.

ALT 2 - Concepts and Strategies

Students will understand the concepts and strategies utilized to determine and target marketing strategies to a select audience.

AST 2.1 - Market Identification  :  Understand the concept of market and market identification.

AST 2.2 - Market Segmentation  :  Understand the concept of market segmentation.

AST 2.3 - Marketing Plans  :  Understand the importance of evaluating marketing plans.

ALT 3 - Concepts to Gather Information

Students will understand the concepts needed to gather and evaluate information for use in making business decisions.

AST 3.1 - Marketing Information  :  Describe the need for marketing information.

AST 3.2 - Marketing Research Activities  :  Understand marketing-research activities.

AST 3.3 - Develop a Plan  :  Understand how to employ marketing-information to develop a marketing plan.

ALT 4 - Pricing

Students will understand concepts and strategies utilized in determining and adjusting prices to maximize return and meet customers perceptions of value.

AST 4.1 - Pricing Function  :  Explain the nature and scope of the pricing function.

AST 4.2 - Economic Principles  :  Understand how basic economic principles affect pricing.

ALT 5 - Product Improvement

Students will understand the concepts and processes needed to obtain, develop, maintain, and improve a product or service mix in response to market opportunities.

AST 5.1 - Management Function  :  Explain and describe the nature and scope of the product/service management function.

AST 5.2 - Product Ideas  :  Understand the importance of generating product ideas to the ongoing success of a business.

AST 5.3 - Meeting Expectations  :  Understand how product-mix strategies are employed to meet customer expectations.

ALT 6 - Communication

Students will understand the concepts and strategies needed to communicate information about products, services, images, and/or ideas to achieve a desired outcome.

AST 6.1 - Understand Promotion  :  Understand the nature and scope of promotion.

AST 6.2 - Promotional Channels  :  Understand promotional channels used to communicate with the targeted audiences.

ALT 7 - Sales Channels

Students will understand the concepts and processes needed to identify, select, monitor, and evaluate sales channels.

AST 7.1 - Channel Management  :  Explain the nature and scope of channel management.

AST 7.2 - Channels of Distribution  :  Explain the nature of channels of distribution.

ALT 8 - Responding to Clients

Students will understand the concepts and actions needed to determine client needs and wants and respond through planned, personalized communication that influences purchase decisions and enhances future business opportunities.

AST 8.1 - Understanding Sales  :  Acquire a foundational knowledge of selling to understand its nature and scope.

AST 8.2 - Product Knowledge  :  Acquire product knowledge to communicate product benefits and to ensure appropriateness of product for the customer.

AST 8.3 - Enhance Customer Relationships  :  Understand sales processes and techniques to enhance customer relationships and to increase the likelihood of making sales.

ALT 9 - Apply and Demonstrate Skills

Apply and demonstrate key professional metacognitive skills to facilitate business success and to progress in business, marketing, sales, and service careers.

AST 9.1 - Collaboration  :  Students work effectively with others; respect diversity; are empathetic, cooperative, and willing to compromise; assume shared responsibility for group tasks; and communicate effectively in groups.

AST 9.2 - Communication  :  Students effectively communicate and listen through oral, written, visual, and nonverbal formats in both formal and information situations.

AST 9.3 - Leadership  :  Students inspire and influence others to achieve a common goal by capitalizing on strengths to coordinate tasks; motivating and guiding others; taking initiative and responsibility for outcomes; being decisive, assertive, and authoritative; developing others' skills; and negotiating conflict.

AST 9.4 - Self-Efficacy  :  Students are confident in their ability to obtain academic success; persist to overcome challenges; and are not defeated by failure.

AST 9.5 - Integrity  :  Students work in a systematic and organized fashion to develop precise and accurate products that comply with procedures and directions; have high standards; and maintain personal and academic integrity.

AST 9.6 - Adaptability  :  Students respond and adapt well to change; are comfortable with ambiguity; adjust priorities and thinking in response to change; manage pressure and setbacks; and maintain an optimistic outlook.
